A fine hakama is like fine men's custom suits. The value and quality are in the details and craftsmanship. We also suggest to our clients that both the hakama pants and either Kimono or standard sleeve top be purchased at the same time so that the fabric will match as it will come from the same bolt of cloth.   Amazingly the cost is not very different when compared with the "non-custom" separates.  

Did you know that a hakama made specifically for the art of Iaido are constructed differently than other hakama?  Yes, there are secret details that make this type of hakama hang better and therefore be a most popular choice amongst high ranking Iaido exponents for both daily wear and for demonstration.

A:  Defined by the proportions between upper and lower body.  The front is made  about 3/4 inch shorter than the back so that you do not step onto your hakama when you practice. Because we all feel comfortable wearing clothing slightly differently at the hips we suggest that while wearing comfortable pants that you measure from the base of the belt loop down the side of the leg to the middle of the ankle bone in order to determine correct garment length.  Please remember that various companies use different templates so a size by one brand may not translate precisely into the same size by another brand.

B:  We custom tailor the back panel so that it fits to your body's contours taking hip size into consideration so that the pleats and vents hang naturally straight. For full sized clients (waist in excess of 40)" we will take your hip measurement so that the seamstress can adjust the front and back panels accordingly.

C:  Interior construction of the garment defines the look of how the Hakama drapes.
