The art of this period coincided with Japan's romance age as the Heian Court Period evolved into the Shogunal military period.  Chinese culture and religion had taken root becoming a powerful influence on all facets of Japanese Society.  These reproduction statuettes are painstakingly recreated, with cultured stone and lacquer in order to capture the essence of the power of this diety from the Buddhist pantheon. Meticulous effort is given to every detail.

The original work is attributed to Unkei  and his work dominated this school of art.
